Hospice Special Focus Group – Know Your Risks

Webinar Details:

Medicare is serious about finding and excluding bad actors in the Hospice Benefit Program. Part if its arsenal is the Hospice Special Focus Program (SFP) designed to find and scrutinize hospices with poor scores in quality measures already in place. Learn what CMS says will point its increased oversight on Hospices by selecting them for the SFP. And gain insight into what CMS hopes to accomplish through SFP. The SFP will enforce remedies for noncompliant hospice programs, including terminating their participation in the Hospice Benefit as a hospice provider when CMS determines such remedies are ineffective. It also adds ways that hospices can appeal CMS decisions concerning any sanctions CMS imposes on them. No hospice wants to be that "special." Learn how to decrease your hospice's chance of selection for the SFP and how to increase the chance of avoiding the ultimate sanction: termination.

Learning Objective:

  • Successful participants will understand the elements of CMS' Special Focus Program for hospices.
  • Attendees will learn where to find current information on and ongoing updates about CMS' Special Focus Program.
  • Engaged learners will prepare to apply information about CMS' Special Focus Program to their hospices' own QAPI plans to decrease their chance of SFP selection by CMS.
  • Participants will learn what happens if their hospices are selected as part of the Special Focus Program and how to appeal any inappropriate sanctions CMS imposes
